River Arts Collective is a member-run SoMa gallery with white walls that actually get dirty from installation week. Maya Chen hangs group shows that mix painters who sell and sculptors who do not care. First Fridays spill onto the sidewalk. It is the opposite of a hotel-art showroom — prices are on a clipboard, and the artist might be sitting in the corner.
